Agios Athanasios
Located 30 km from the city of Edessa and very close to the ski center Voras is the traditional preserved settlement of Agios Athanasios (or Tsegani). The village was built in the late 16th century at the foot of the mountain Voras (or Kaimaktsalan), in Piperitsa peak at 1,200 m., And was once a thriving farming community until the '70s. After he started plummeting, until 1995 when the entire village "devastated" and came to number two families only. The rest either "got their eyelets" or moved lower in New Aghios Athanasios. With the construction of the ski resort in 1995 the situation was reversed.
Today is a beautiful tourist village with tiled roof buildings, samples of the very interesting traditional Macedonian architecture, which dovetails with the natural surroundings.
Important attraction of the village is the church of Analipseos, which was built at the end of 1700. The village has everything regarding food, coffee, drink and fun.
